One of the most important components of sustainable literature, which has gained a more specific face and appearance, especially in our country, due to the impact of the 8-year period of sacred defense, is the component of war and the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom. The concept of war in our country has also created a culture of sacrifice, sacrifice and martyrdom. In a way, contemporary poets and writers have always directly and indirectly addressed this category in their works. In this research, we aim to answer the question by examining the symbols of war and martyrdom in the poems of one of the most famous contemporary poets, namely Houshang Ebtehaj: "What is this poet's symbolic approach to the concept of war and martyrdom? And what are the most frequently used symbols he uses in order to explain the aforementioned concepts?" This research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method. The results of this research show that Ebtehaj uses a total of 31 different symbols with a frequency of 71 repetitions in his poems to explain the concepts of war and martyrdom. The most frequently used symbol in his sacred defense poems is the symbol of blood with a frequency of 22 repetitions, which implies the concept of martyrdom. On the other hand, the least frequently used symbols of war and martyrdom in his poems are the symbols of: flood, fire, bud, deer, etc., each of which is used only once in his poems.
