One of the most widely used symbols in Persian poetry, especially in contemporary social poetry, is the symbol of "garden". In this research, we intend to answer the question by comparative examination of the poetry of two of the most famous Persian ghazal poets of yesterday and today, namely Hafez Shirazi and Hossein Monzavi, and by using a combined method based on the theory of conceptual metaphor by Lakoff and Johnson, and the theory of semiotics by Michael Rifater: "What is the concept of the symbol of garden in the poems of Hafez and Monzavi and how does it convey meaning?" The results of this research show that: Hafez, in 8 different metaphorical mappings, uses the objective origin realm of the symbol of garden to indicate the abstract destination realm of concepts such as: "beauty, pleasure, life, heart, sight, heaven, world, and home and homeland" and in this regard uses the meaning-making processes of accumulation and descriptive poetry. Also, Monzavi, with less frequency and variety, used the concrete symbol of the garden in 5 metaphorical mappings to indicate abstract concepts: "desire, heart, life, love, and homeland" and in this regard, he often benefited from the meaning-making process of accumulation and sometimes the process of descriptive poetry.
