The present study aims to explain the manifestations and functions of religion and religiosity in the teenage novel "Call Me Beautiful" by Farhad Hassanzadeh. The main issue of the study is to what extent religion is present in this novel in the form of explicit religious signs and statements and to what extent it is represented through the lived experience of the characters, family relationships, moral choices, suffering, loss, hope, and the search for belonging. The research method is descriptive-analytical and its approach is qualitative, and the unit of analysis is meaningful narrative situations in which value, belief, crisis, or moral choice plays a role. To prevent conceptual confusion, a distinction has been made between religion, religiosity, spirituality, and morality. The findings of the study show that in this novel, the presence of religion is more evident in the indirect layers of the narrative and in the moral experience of the teenage character than in the form of direct and preaching education. Family, love, forgiveness, responsibility, human dignity, hope, facing suffering, and the need to belong are the most important areas that have the capacity for religious and spiritual reading; however, only in cases where the text proves the connection of these values with the religious belief system can we speak of "religion" and in other cases the term "human morality" or "spiritual readability" is more accurate. By placing the beautiful in difficult situations, the novel transforms the adolescent audience from a passive recipient of the message to a moral judge and chooser. Accordingly, the most important functions of religion and spirituality that can be examined in this novel are the identity, moral, emotional-psychological, educational, and meaning-making functions.
