Modern literary criticism, and short‑story criticism as one of its branches, has a relatively short history in Iran. Investigating the methods and approaches of scholars and critics in modern literary criticism helps illuminate aspects of contemporary literary history. Gholamhossein Yusefi, a prominent figure in this field, has made significant contributions to literary studies as a researcher, critic, editor, and professor, analyzing more than one hundred literary works. In addition to classical Persian literature, Yusefi examined contemporary and Western literature, combining traditional aesthetic perspectives with modern analytical approaches. Examining narrative elements from Yusefi’s perspective helps clarify their development in Persian literature. This article, based on library‑based research, analyzes Yusefi’s works in order to explore the components of story criticism from his viewpoint. It demonstrates how he addresses elements such as language, plot, setting, characterization, point of view, and verisimilitude, emphasizing their artistic integration and highlighting realism as the central principle of narrative credibility.
